No-one knows when we might need first aid so having people around us that know what to do and have the confidence to help is important.
The Health and Safety Executive (HSE) agrees.
The Health and Safety Executive (HSE) require businesses and organisations to provide an 'adequate and appropriate' level of first aid cover for those in their care, including mental wellbeing and those working remotely.

Courses can be attended at one of our training centres in Hampshire or, if you prefer, at your establishment. Prices tailored accordingly.
Level: Basic first aid qualification
Suitable for: Low-risk workplaces (eg. offices, shops) where employees need to respond to a health related incident whilst the emergency services are en route
Why this course is useful: EFAW is accessable to all and gives staff the confidence to handle incidents typical in an office/shop environment. It is shorter than the full FAW course as it does not cover topics like fractures, spinal injuries, chest injuries, eye injuries, poisoning, anaphylaxis, or major illnesses which may not be something every employee would be comfortable to tackle
Duration: 1 day
Requirements: No prior first aid knowledge or experience necessary
Assessment: Practical, ongoing observation (no written exam)
Ages: 14+
Roles & responsibilities (duties of a first aider, workplace regulations, infection control, reporting & recording incidents)
Unresponsive casualty (primary survey, recovery position, CPR (adult), AED use)
Breathing issues (recognition and treatment of choking mild and severe)
Seizures (managing a casualty having a seizure)
Circulation & bleeding (controlling severe external bleeding, recognising & managing shock)
Minor injuries (cuts, grazes, bruises, splinters, minor burns and scalds)
Level: Comprehensive workplace first aid qualification
Suitable for: High-risk workplaces (e.g., factories, construction, engineering, large organisations) where employees must comply with more complex health and safety requirements and be prepared for a wide range of injuries (in locations that can be easily reached by emergency services)
Why this course is useful: The ITC FAW course is a comprehensive, hands-on qualification designed to prepare designated first-aiders to handle a wide range of emergencies in the workplace—from cardiac arrest and traumatic injuries to health crises and environmental hazards.

Why this course matters in schools: While the Emergency First Aid for Schools & Colleges (one-day version) focuses on critical life-saving incidents like CPR, choking, and seizures, the First Aid for Schools & Colleges course provides a far more robust skill set. It equips staff to handle a wider variety of incidents—essential in educational environments where you might encounter anything from allergic reactions and head injuries to environmental issues like heat exhaustion.
